All about speed

Broadband internet is all about high-speed data connectivity. So how does it all work?

What is line speed?

Line speed refers to the maximum speed a line can support, it simply indicates how fast you’ll be able to perform actions like opening a webpage, uploading/downloading files or loading a video to stream in real-time.

Mbps (Megabits per second – sometimes referred to as “meg” or “megs”) is the speed at which your line downloads or uploads data. The higher the megs, the faster the connection speed, and the more there is to go around when multiple users are sharing the connection.

What line speed do I need?

When it comes to choosing the right speed for you, there are a variety of factors to take into account.

How many people are going to be connected at one time, do you need to download or upload large files very quickly, or maybe you’re hoping to stream video content at Ultra-HD resolutions despite the general use of other users.

We’ve created a speed guide to help you make a decision but remember that you can contact your internet service provider (ISP) for more information about which plan is right for you.
